NFC Times Take:
Germany’s mobile operators all have introduced NFC wallets and branded or co-branded payments applications. But there are few places for subscribers to tap to pay. Visa Europe counted only 30,000 payWave-enabled terminals earlier this year, for example. Vendor Giesecke & Devrient this week said there are 35,000 locations that will accept the new PayPass-enabled prepaid wallet card. That is much lower than the leading European countries for contactless payments, however. Contactless acceptance is expected to grow this year, though it remains to be seen whether German banks participate in the telco wallets.
